QCLNG Project Narrows Crossings – HDD Engineering and QC Inspection

Project Scope of Work: 

Queensland Curtis LNG is a major, integrated project to develop Queensland’s coal seam gas resources for domestic and export markets.  The project includes a 380km main 42” gas pipeline from the onshore gas fields to the LNG processing plant and export facility located on Curtis Island. The proposed pipeline route crosses between the mainland and Curtis Island at the Narrows in Gladstone Harbour.

The Narrows Crossing Pipeline is approximately 12km and comprises three crossing sections:

• Creek Section 1.5km- two creek crossings with tidal mangroves and mud flats on either side.
• Marshland Section 1.8km – marshy tidal mud flats andsome mangroves.
• Narrows Section 1.8km – tidal water course between Friend Point on Kangaroo Island and Laird Point on Curtis Island.

Stockton Drilling Services provided specialist HDD engineering services for the Narrows Crossing Pipeline from the commencement of the Front End Engineering and Design through to contract award. The services provided include preliminary design, construction methodology, schedule and budget price and tender evaluation.

During construction Stockton provided HDD QC Inspection personnel to oversee and monitor all drilling activities on the Narrows for QCLNG and APLNG.  Stockton also undertook gyro surveys of the installed drill pipe to confirm positional data and minimum bend radius.
