Scope of Work:
The Gorgon Project’s shore crossing connects the upstream facilities to the onshore infrastructure on Barrow Island, off the coast of northern Western Australia. Barrow Island and its environs is a Class “A” nature reserve and as such the Gorgon Project is subject to strict environmental controls. The project scope of works included:
Stockton Drilling Services provided specialist HDD engineering services for the Gorgon Gas Project from the commencement of Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) in 2005 to the successful installation of the crossings in 2012. The challenges that were met were substantial and these included remote island location, stringent quarantine and environmental requirements, no availability of fresh water, potentially cavernous karst formation, and high energy and exposed marine environment.
During the design phase, we were involved in the following as an integral part of the design team:
During the construction phase, Stockton Drilling Services provided QC Inspection and project management support. The primary role of the Inspectors / Advisors was to ensure that the project was executed as planned and in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Charles Stockton acted as Principal Shore Approach Specialist during the engineering phase and then transitioned to Site Construction Manager during execution.
